Vacancy: Assistant Caretaker


We are looking to appoint an honest, reliable, hardworking and self-motivated Assistant Caretaker to join our site team and contribute to the safety, appearance and upkeep of the school. The role involves supporting our Site Manager by carrying out a range of caretaking duties including security and supervision of the site and other caretaking duties including repairs and maintenance. Experience in this type of role is desirable.


Local Government Pay Scale 3, £18,933 to £19,312 pro rata. 16 hours a week term time plus approximately 2 weeks during the school holidays to cover the site manager. Hours of work can be negotiable if necessary. (Actual salary £7160 to £7304 plus any overtime)


The successful candidate may be required to cover on site lettings, evenings and weekends with additional pay.

  • Able to take pride in the appearance and condition of our school, both internally and externally
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Knowledgeable with handy-person/DIY skills and the ability to carry out general repairs competently
  • Able to form professional relationships with staff, parents and of course our children.


Among other duties the successful candidate will undertake:


  • General repairs and maintenance of school buildings and grounds
  • Ensuring Health and Safety compliance
  • Acting as a keyholder
  • Decorating
  • Furniture removal
  • Window cleaning
  • Taking delivery of stores, materials etc and conveying them
  • Other duties to support the Site Manager

Information about the School

Riverside Primary School, situated 500m from the River Crouch, opened in September 2010 when the Infant and Junior schools amalgamated. We are very proud to be an integral part of the village of Hullbridge, building and enjoying strong links with other schools, local businesses and members of our local community.
